Frequently Asked Questions

It shows twelve live stats: word count, character count with and without spaces, sentence count, paragraph count, unique word count, line count, average sentence length, estimated reading time, speaking time, a readability score, and keyword density — all calculated from the same block of text as you type.

Yes — both figures update live side by side in the stats row, which is useful when a platform's character limit counts spaces and another one doesn't, so you don't have to guess which number applies to your submission.

By default it assumes 238 words per minute for reading and 130 for speaking, but you can switch to a slower or faster speed (200/238/300 wpm reading, 100/130/150 wpm speaking) to match your own pace or your audience's.

No — paste a short paragraph or an entire manuscript, and the word counter processes it instantly with no length restriction at all, recalculating every stat the moment you add or remove text.

By default, no — nothing is transmitted to or stored on our servers. If you turn on "Save draft on this device", your text is saved only in your own browser's local storage so you don't lose it on refresh; turning it off removes the saved draft immediately.

Yes — you can download your text as a plain text or HTML file, or generate a printable report of the word count stats themselves, which is handy for submitting alongside an assignment or a client deliverable.

Yes. Alongside word and character totals, Word Counter tracks sentence count, paragraph count, unique word count, line count, and average sentence length in real time — useful for tracking structure as well as length.

X (Twitter) posts are limited to 280 characters, and Google typically truncates meta descriptions after roughly 150-160 characters. You can also set your own custom character limit in the tool and it will show exactly how many characters remain or how far over you are.

The readability score is a Flesch Reading Ease estimate based on sentence length and word complexity — a higher score means simpler, more accessible writing. It's an English-language estimate, so it only appears once your text is recognizably English; non-English text still gets a full word and character count, just no readability score.

Keyword density is how often a word or phrase appears in your text as a percentage of the total. You can check single words or 2‑3-word phrases, and optionally hide common English words like "the" and "and" so the list surfaces your actual topic words — useful for confirming a target keyword appears enough for SEO, or catching keyword stuffing.
