Unlock PDF
Unlock PDF documents you own or have permission to change. Remove a known open or owner password with on-device AES and RC4 processing, then download an unencrypted copy. Choose up to 10 files, use a common password or individual overrides, and save successful results separately or as ZIP. This tool does not recover forgotten passwords or perform OCR.
Get Your Result in 4 Simple Steps
Get a clean, usable result in just a few clicks — fast, easy, and completely free.
Choose your protected PDFs
Choose PDFs or drop files into the box. Maximum 10 documents, 50 MB each and 100 MB total. Browser memory can impose lower practical limits.
Enter known passwords
Use Common password when documents share one password, or enter a per-file override. An empty override uses the common password. Leave both blank for an authorized permissions-only PDF that opens without a password. Passwords are case-sensitive and spaces are preserved.
Unlock on this device
Confirm that you own the documents or have permission, then click Unlock PDFs on this device. A browser worker removes supported password encryption. AES files stay in this workflow too; there is no automatic conversion-server upload or cloud fallback.
Check and download results
Save individual successful PDFs or one ZIP; failed files are excluded. Open downloads to check content, forms and links. Keep originals until you have checked the results.
Everything You Need in One Tool
Built to be fast, clean, and easy to maintain — with no messy lines or hard-to-spot errors.
Local AES and RC4 support
Supports standard password-based AES-256, AES-128, RC4-128 and RC4-40 PDFs with a working open or owner password. Output is checked for remaining encryption and a readable page count before a download is offered. Unsupported security handlers can still fail.
Batch files with separate passwords
Use common credentials or individual overrides. An incorrect password on one PDF does not stop the others. Changing passwords clears affected previous results; correct the input and retry.
Individual PDFs or one ZIP
Choose output filenames and save successful files individually, or download them together as ZIP. Duplicate names in the ZIP receive a suffix. The archive contains unencrypted PDFs, so handle it with the same care as the original information.
No conversion-service upload
The workflow processes document bytes and passwords in browser workers. PDF-engine and ZIP software download from pinned CDN packages. Those software requests require internet access; they do not upload your PDF through this tool. Clear files and password fields when finished.
Who Is This Tool For?
Whether you're working on a personal project or a professional one, this tool fits right in.
-
Remove a repeated password prompt
Remove repeated password prompts from your own PDF using its known password. Store the unencrypted working copy carefully. -
Prepare PDFs for organizing
Unlock authorized documents before merging, splitting or rearranging pages. Check that downloads open normally before using another tool. -
Reuse an internal template
Reuse a template you have permission to modify. Unlocking does not replace OCR or make scanned text editable. -
Handle a small document batch
Handle several PDFs locally with separate passwords, then collect successful outputs in a ZIP.
Small Changes. Big Difference.
A little polish goes a long way — it saves time, reduces mistakes, and makes your work look more professional.
Keep the original
Keep the protected original. The rewritten copy should be checked for text, forms, bookmarks, links and attachments; not every PDF construct is guaranteed.
Check digital signatures
Rewriting a signed PDF can invalidate its digital signature even if the visible signature still appears. Use the original signed file for signature verification. Visible watermarks are not removed.
Know the password type
An open password controls viewing; an owner password manages reader permissions. Permissions-only PDFs may open with a blank password. Remove only restrictions you are authorized to change.
Retry carefully after an error
Check password spelling and spaces. A failure may also mean damage, an unsupported security handler or insufficient browser memory. There is no password guessing or automatic cloud fallback; ask the document owner for help.
Frequently Asked Questions

It removes supported password encryption and associated password-based permission restrictions, producing an unencrypted copy. It does not remove visible watermarks, recover forgotten passwords or make scanned text editable.
If a PDF opens without a password and only has permission restrictions, leave both password fields blank. Otherwise supply a working open or owner password. This tool does not guess unknown passwords.
Up to 10 PDFs per batch, with a 50 MB limit per file and 100 MB total. Device memory and PDF complexity can impose lower practical limits. Failed files are excluded from ZIP.
No. Standard AES-256, AES-128 and legacy RC4 password processing runs on your device in this workflow. Internet access downloads the engine software; there is no automatic conversion-server fallback.
Unlocking rewrites the PDF. Digital signatures can become invalid even when their appearance remains visible. Keep the original, then check text, images, forms, bookmarks and links in the output.
Yes. Use a common password for shared credentials or set a per-file override. Empty overrides inherit the common password; leave both blank when no open password is required.
That file gets an error and no output; other files can still finish. Correct its password and run again. Changing password inputs clears the affected previous results to avoid stale downloads.
It produces a rewritten unencrypted copy and identifies the input as already unencrypted. That is not evidence of a removed password. Keep the source and check the saved document.
No. Certificate encryption, DRM, unusual security handlers and damaged files may be unsupported. Large or complex documents can exceed browser memory. Obtain an authorized usable copy from the document owner.
No account or desktop installation is required. Browser assets download on first use. Clearing removes current tool references and results; downloaded copies remain on your device.
